Major Opening Day Images from the Minors

A couple of days ago we enjoyed sharing a brief recap of our enjoyment of the home opener of the Kane County Cougars, just outside of Chicago, IL. One thing we did not mention was the way in which the parent club (the Kansas City Royals) seem to be trying very hard to make the young players feel part of a larger and greater baseball picture than simply “Class A.” Many of the players had big-league gear on to stay warm (the same could not be said about the visiting players). And, of course, the play between the KC logo for Kansas City and “Kane County” is an easy one to build upon.

We want to share with you just a few shots from that day that, hopefully, will allow you to enjoy some of the fun and baseball electricity we felt among the Cougars and their fans that day. Enjoy

Baseball Is Where You Find It (one more time)

We have said it many times before…”Baseball is where you find it.” MLB Memories is always glad and excited to find baseball-related items, advertisements, businesses…whatever…when we are actually doing something else.

Recently we had reason to be in the Kansas City area to see some family members. On the way one day we decided to take a little “detour” to grab some of the great barbeque for which KC is famous! (By the way, the place of choice on this particular day was Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue in the southern KC burb of Martin City. Excellent!)

Just two blocks away from the slice of smoked meat heaven we drove past a facility we had heard of many times. Former Kansas City Royals players Mike Macfarlane and Kevin Seitzer (who is now the Royals major league hitting coach) have had a baseball training academy for several years now. It began on the Kansas side of the state line, but now, much to our surprise, we found the current location. It was a nice surprise, and we share the pic with you now. Enjoy.

Historic Autographs: The Decades – 1950s & 1960s a Quick Review

A week or so ago MLB Memories was glad to provide a review and some pictures from the signature release of Historic Autographs. The “Legends of the Hall” set has been very well done and very well received the last two years…and we are hopeful they will bring it back again!

The company at Historic Autographs are building on their success. In addition to the Hall of Fame series the company has produced autograph sets in the past dealing with award winners, and even deceased players as a set theme. Each of these sets provide authenticated autographs that are slabbed and registered by the folks at PSA.

Earlier this season the company released a set called “The Decades: the 1950s and 1960s.” If the customers of MLB Memories are any measure, this set is one of the best received in the company’s short history!

This extremely limited product came with each series – the 1950s or the 1960s – having its own checklist, artwork and individual superstars. Some stars could be found in both series such as Roberto Clemente, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, Sandy Koufax and Nellie Fox. Of course, some players such as Jackie Robinson, Joe DiMaggio, Satchel Paige and Roy Campanella only appear in the 1950s boxes while Roger Maris, Nolan Ryan, Reggie Jackson, Ken Boyer, Norm Cash and Tony Conigliaro only appear in the 1960s. Each series checklist included more than 50% Hall of Famers!

These are some of the nicest cards in the set, but they are also almost impossible to scan and display well. Red Man Tobacco cards: a 1954 gallery

One of the most colorful and collected baseball card issues of the 1950s is the Red Man Tobacco card sets. These were the first national sets of tobacco cards produced since the golden days of tobacco sets in the latter 1800s and early part of the 1900s. In an era when Bowman and Topps were fighting it out to see who would have card supremacy, Red Man came in under the radar and produced one of the best looking and most collectible sets of the 1950′s.

MLB Memories recently obtained a nice collection of these cards from the 1952 and 1954 seasons. Earlier, in a more extensive write-up about the cards, we promised a gallery of some of the purchased collection. Here are a few of the 1954 cards for your enjoyment.

2012 Just Minors Mystery Gamers Photo Gallery

A couple of days ago MLB Memories posted the items from a case break of the incredible 2012 Just Minors Mystery Gamers Baseball product. In case you missed the post (and you can easily find it later using our search bar), this product features game-used jerseys, fielding gloves, cleats, hats and pairs of batting gloves from major league baseball players. Not ALL the items opened are autographed, but many of them are.

Since that post, several have asked if we could provide any additional pictures of some of the items we either opened or saw opened by our customers. We are glad to oblige with this gallery. Enjoy!
